A team of superheroes from HSS Hire have donned their capes (well… decorating clothes) and spent a day transforming our brand new training space.

If you have been following our progress you will know that last year we had to move out of our training room after it was earmarked for development. While we knew the day would come, it was still a blow to have to leave facilities which met our needs so well.

After months of hiring training rooms on an ad hoc basis, we have now taken over the lease on the first floor of our building at Ludgate Circus and can bring all of our training sessions in house again.

The rooms were in need of serious brightening up so we turned to HSS Hire for their support. The company has a Heroes of Hire programme whereby colleagues are encouraged to volunteer their time and their skills to help local community and charity projects.

Fuelled by bacon rolls and a vat of coffee, a team of nine volunteers spent the day scrubbing, prepping and painting three rooms. The main space is where will deliver our group employability skills training and the two smaller rooms are where one-to-one support will be delivered by our employment consultants.

Gareth Lucy, HSS Hire’s Head of Brand and Communications, said the project was right up their street:

“One of our key focus areas, where we believe we can make a real difference, is in helping young people gain the skills and confidence required to improve their employability. Working with the Drive Forward Foundation, an organisation that helps your care leavers in doing just that, was a perfect fit for HSS and we were delighted to help.”

Director of Drive Forward Foundation, Martha Wansbrough said:

“The team from HSS have helped us to transform our new training space. Tired and scruffy looking rooms have been completely refreshed and the paintwork is gleaming. Both our funds and time are limited so to have a team of volunteers support us in this way is invaluable – and we have picked up some expert painting tips!”

The first care leavers to use the newly decorated rooms will be those on our Professional Pathways programme, which begins on 4 April.
